Ekadashah or Donation

In times of loss or grief, words often fall short. In Hindu tradition, the donation or rituals on the 11th day after a death, which often include offering food and charity for the deceased’s soul. This ceremony is significant because it marks the formation of the deceased’s spiritual body and includes acts of charity and Pind Daan (offering food), which are believed to help the soul achieve peace and move forward.

The Garuda Purana emphasizes the benefits of charity (daanam or donation) to mitigate the suffering caused by past sins. The broader Hindu tradition, which the Garuda Purana is part of, considers copper sacred for its purification and spiritual conductivity, often used in rituals. Donating copper items can be seen as a virtuous act in the context of Hindu practices and beliefs about spiritual purity.
